EAST BRIDGEWATER – Chief Timothy Harhen is pleased to announce that the East Bridgewater Fire Department has been awarded a Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) grant.
The award, totaling $976,818, is for the hiring of four firefighters/paramedics. The total cost is 100% of their salaries and benefits for three years.
The SAFER grant was created by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to provide funding directly to fire departments and volunteer firefighter interest organizations to help increase or maintain the number of trained, “front line” firefighters available in their communities.
The East Bridgewater Fire Department was awarded in the second round and it is the second time in two years that the department has applied for this grant.
“The East Bridgewater Fire Department would like to thank FEMA for this generous grant funding,” said Chief Harhen. “This award will allow us to hire additional firefighters to better improve the safety of all residents in the community.”
