EAST BRIDGEWATER — Chief Michael Jenkins is pleased to report that the East Bridgewater Police Department is conducting two successful public safety initiatives using funding awarded through the Justice Assistance Grant (JAG). The department also purchased a covert surveillance camera using the grant, which was awarded in November.

The goal of the anti-crime enforcement initiative is to mitigate quality of life crimes that affect residents, business owners and visitors of the community.

The East Bridgewater Police Department was awarded a total of $43,200. Approximately $12,000 was awarded to purchase new surveillance camera equipment.

The remaining $31,200 was awarded to pay for two proactive anti-crime enforcement initiatives. The first initiative aims to disrupt illicit drug activity through proactive patrol efforts. The second initiative aims to combat a recent spike in overnight vehicle break-ins through additional proactive patrols.

“We are deeply grateful to receive this generous grant, which empowers us to take a proactive approach in safeguarding our community,” said East Bridgewater Police Chief Jenkins. “This funding will enhance our ability to prevent crime, build stronger relationships with the people we serve and create a safer, more secure environment for everyone.”

Nearly $5 million in funds was awarded to 130 police departments across the state to address specific priority areas such as unlawful drug use, domestic violence, gun violence, missing person cases and hate crimes. The grant also funded projects related to technology upgrades, investigative tools and protective gear, school safety and security and efforts to advance racial equity and support underserved communities.
